OF THE HAUPPAUGE PUBLIC
LIBRARY
TOWN
OF ISLIP, COUNTY OF SUFFOLK, NEW YORK
BUDGET
VOTE AND TRUSTEE ELECTION
APRIL 14, 2015
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a Special
District Meeting of the qualified voters of the Hauppauge Public Library
Special District, Town of Islip, Suffolk County, New York will be held in the
Hauppauge Public Library, 601 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge, New York,
on April 14, 2015, for the purpose of voting, by voting machine, upon the
following items:
(1)
To elect one (1) Trustee to the Hauppauge Public
Library to fill a five year term commencing July 1, 2015 and ending June 30,
2020, as a result of the expiration of the term of office presently held by
Ralph Plotke, and
(2)
To adopt the Annual Library District Budget for the
fiscal year 2015/2016 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be
raised by taxation on the taxable property of the Library District, and
FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that
for the purpose of voting at such meeting on April 14, 2015 the polls will be
open between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., prevailing time, and the
voting will be held in the Hauppauge Public Library, 601 Veterans Memorial
Highway, Hauppauge, New York; and
FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that petitions
nominating candidates for the Office of Trustee of the Hauppauge Public Library
shall be filed in the Hauppauge Public Library, 601 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge, New York, between the hours of 10:00 a.m.
and 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, Monday through Friday, and not later than 5:00
p.m., Monday, March 16, 2015. Each
candidate must be a qualified voter, and must reside in the area served by the
Hauppauge Public Library. Each petition
must be directed to Mr. Nicholas Mendola, who shall serve as the Clerk of the
vote and must be signed by at least twenty five (25) qualified voters of the
District or two (2%) per cent of the voters who voted in the previous annual
election of the Trustees of the Library, whichever is greater, such number to be
determined by the number of persons recorded in the poll list as having voted
at such election. Such petition must
state the name and the residence of each signer and the name and residence of
the candidate; and
FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Board of Trustees
of the Hauppauge Public Library will hold a special budget hearing for the
purpose of discussion of the expenditure of funds of the Hauppauge Public
Library and the budgeting thereof on April 2, 2015, at the Hauppauge Public
Library, 601 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge, New York at 7:30 p.m. All residents of the Hauppauge Public Library
District are invited to attend this informational meeting to receive accurate
information concerning the Hauppauge Public Library Budget for the fiscal year
July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016; and
FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that
copies of the annual estimated expenditures for the Hauppauge Public Library to
be voted upon together with the text of any resolution which will be presented
to the voters shall be available to any taxpayer in the Library District at the
Hauppauge Public Library, 601 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge, New York
between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. commencing on March 26, 2015 and
each weekday through April 14, 2015; and
FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that
personal registration of voters is required either pursuant to Section 2014 of
the Education Law or pursuant to Article 5 of the Election Law. If a voter has heretofore registered pursuant
to Section 2014 of the Education Law and has voted at any annual or special
Library District meeting within the past four (4) years, such voter is eligible
to vote and not required to register again for this Special Library District
meeting. In addition, all those who are
registered to vote with the Board of Elections of Suffolk County prior to April
1, 2015 shall be entitled to vote at this Special Library District meeting
notwithstanding their failure to have previously registered with the Library
District. All other persons who wish to
vote must register. A person who will
have resided in the Library District for a period of at least thirty (30) days
prior to the day of the vote, who is a citizen of the United States and at
least eighteen (18) years of age, shall be entitled to vote; and
FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that
the members of the Board of Registration will meet at the Hauppauge Public
Library, located at 601 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge, New York, on
April 7, 2015 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., prevailing time, to
prepare the register of the Special Library District and any person shall be
entitled to have his or her name placed upon such Register provided that at
such meeting of the Board of Registration he or she is known or proven to the
satisfaction of the members of the Board of Registration to be then and
therefore entitled to vote at the said meeting on April 14, 2015. The Register will thereafter be filed in the
Hauppauge Public Library, located at 601 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge,
New York, where the Register will be open for inspection on each of the five
(5) days prior to April 14, 2015 excluding Sundays and holidays, between the
hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., prevailing time; and
FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that
pursuant to the provisions of 2018-a of the Education Law, absentee ballots for
the election of Trustee and vote on the budget may be applied for at the
Hauppauge Public Library during regular business hours. Such applications must be received by the Clerk
no later than seven days prior to the vote if the ballot is mailed to the voter
or by 5:00 p.m., prevailing time or no later than the day prior to the vote if
the ballot is to be personally delivered to the voter. No absentee voter’s ballot shall be canvassed, unless it
shall have been received in the Hauppauge Public Library no later than 5:00
p.m., prevailing time, on the day of the election. A list of all persons to whom absentee
ballots shall have been issued will be available and posted in the said Library
on each of the five (5) days prior to the day of the vote except Sundays and
holidays; and
FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a
qualified voter whose ability to appear personally at the polling place is
substantially impaired by reasons of permanent illness or physical disability
and whose registration record has been marked “permanently disabled” by the
Board of Elections pursuant to the provisions of the Education Law shall be
entitled to receive an absentee ballot pursuant to the provisions of the
Education Law without making separate applications for such absentee ballot.
